CHICAGO — The head of National Taxpayers United of Illinois (NTUI) today charged that striking teachers in Huntley’s Consolidated School District 158 not only do not deserve the pay hikes they are demanding, but that they are already “grossly overpaid.” The average base salary in 2007 at District 158 was $50,915 for nine months employment. MASSACHUSETTS DRIVE TO END STATE INCOME TAX COULD SPREAD ACROSS NATION

CHICAGO—The taxpayer initiative to end the state income tax on the statewide Massachusetts ballot, if successful, could spread across the nation, according to Jim Tobin, President of National Taxpayers United of Illinois (NTUI). The Massachusetts state board of elections recently certified that citizen activists have gathered 83,000 certified signatures to qualify an initiative for the November ballot to eliminate the state income tax. St. Sen. Meeks' Urged To Rescind His "Skip School And Hop Bus" Proposal

Alex Voorman, Policy Analyst of National Taxpayers United of Illinois (NTUI), today urged St. Sen. James T. Meeks (D-15, Calumet City) to rescind his call for Chicago Public School students to skip the first day of school on September 2nd and be bussed over to New Trier High School in Winnetka to register for classes.  Meeks claimed this move will highlight the inequality in funding between Chicago and its more affluent suburbs.
