FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) – Taxpayers United of America is calling on Gov. Steve Beshear to end the secrecy surrounding pension payments to state government retirees.
The group’s vice president, Christina Tobin, said Kentucky is 1 of only a few states that don’t disclose pension payments, even though it freely discloses wages of employees.
Tobin said Kentuckians have a right to know how much money retirees are getting. She said she will deliver a letter to Beshear on Monday asking him to release pension information. The group also has scheduled a news conference at the Capitol.
Tobin said Kentucky is 1 of the nation’s most secretive states when it comes to pension payments to retirees that can total in the millions of dollars for some over the course of their retirements.
