Yesterday was a good day for taxpayers. Despite the naysaying and the heckling from tax thieves, taxpayers have just won a string of very important victories. Every Home Rule referenda in Cook County was soundly defeated, along with two government school property increase referenda in Will County.

“These are all great results,”, said Jim Tobin, president of Taxpayers United of America (TUA), commenting on the March 17 election. “Our hard work in Burr Ridge, Westchester, and Lynwood have paid off. Every Home Rule referendum was trounced by overwhelming majorities.”

“Ever since tax thieves bulldogged a $5,000,000,000 income tax increase through Springfield, they have pushed for even higher taxes on the middle class. Taxpayers are furious at these constant tax hikes. Homeowners bristle at the very idea of another property tax increase.”

“Taxpayers have fled these outrageous taxes in droves, and quite a few have lost hope. One supporter of TUA went so far as to write me a letter, telling me to give up, that Illinois is a lost cause. I didn’t give up though, and neither should anyone else! When it comes to tax increase referenda, taxpayers win.”

“I have fought tax increases in Illinois for over 40 years. Including the 3 new Home Rule referenda victories, with the property tax referenda victories in Peotone and Oswego, we have now racked up 437 taxpayer referenda victories. Illinois taxpayers are nowhere near out of the fight.”

“I sense a turning point coming in Illinois. Illinoisans are done with new taxes, but government employees are demanding more The lavish pensions Speaker Madigan and his cronies have promised are outgrowing the amount of money they can steal from taxpayers. The only way they can keep the gravy train rolling is with a graduated income tax increase.”

“The $5,000,000,000 income tax increase was not enough, and neither is the proposed graduated income tax increase. This ‘Fair Tax’ as called, is nothing more than thievery. It is in fact an Income Theft Amendment, a graduated income tax increase on the middle class.”

“Now that the March 17 elections are over, the November 3 Income Theft Amendment is now our major focus. We beat Home Rule, we defeated, property tax increases, and now we are going to beat back the Income Theft Amendment as we did before.”

ANTI-HOME RULE TAXPAYERS WARMLY RECEIVED IN WESTCHESTER

Westchester- Taxpayers handed out flyers in the Village of Westchester yesterday, informing voters of the dangers of Home Rule.

“Its been a tough fight, but I am confident in a taxpayer victory in Westchester,” said Jim Tobin, president of Taxpayers United of America (TUA). “Every report I get shows residents fed up with taxes, and unwilling to deal with any more tax increases.”

“Home Rule is the mechanism bureaucrats use to unleash a flood of taxes on taxpayers. Home Rule removes Property Tax Caps non-Home Rule municipalities have, removes the right taxpayers have to vote on tax increases, and allows local politicians to create new taxes.”

“Moreover, we will start seeing municipalities begin to implement their own income taxes,” said Tobin. “The greedy bureaucrats in Chicago have found a way to use Home Rule to steal even more taxpayer money. If Chicago successfully lobbies Springfield for this power, it will allow every Home Rule municipality to pass an income tax.” “Thankfully, taxpayers are waking up to the heavy tax burden they pay to subsidize lavish government employee lifestyles. I am confident the majority of taxpayers will reject Home Rule on March 17, and will hold firm on any future tax increases like Gov. Pritzker’s Income Increase Amendment. This is the year taxpayers tell the tax thieves enough is enough.”

Red Light Camera Tax To Be Reigned In

Red Light Camera

A bi-partisan bill recently passed the Illinois House of Representatives that would ban red light cameras in non-Home Rule municipalities. The bill passed 84-4 on Wednesday and will now move to the Illinois Senate.

“Banning unreliable red-light cameras in non-Home Rule municipalities is a win for taxpayers, but Springfield can do better,” said Matthew Schultz, Executive Director of Taxpayers United of America (TUA). “The primary function of red-light cameras is to steal money from taxpayers with an indirect tax. If the bill becomes law, bureaucrats in non-Home Rule municipalities will be barred from imposing this tax.

“In fact,” added Schultz, “This provides a stronger reason for taxpayers to reject Home Rule in the March 17 election.”

“As TUA founder and President Jim Tobin has always said, Home Rule means home ruin. With Home Rule, local bureaucrats can run wild with tax increases.  Home Rule means bureaucrats are no longer  limited on how high property taxes can be increased; it robs taxpayers of the right to directly vote on tax increases; it puts a municipality on the path of creating a municipal income tax, and may be the only way a local government can introduce red light cameras.”

“Taxpayers need to reject Home Rule referenda and the upcoming state income tax increase in the election on November 3. Local and state governments need to learn to live within their means like taxpayers. The only way for taxpayers to get that message across is to defeat these huge tax increase measures whenever they are on the ballot.”
