Prompted by the continued exclusion of minor party and independent candidates from debates nationwide, National Taxpayers United of Illinois (NTUI) is teaming with The Free and Equal Elections Foundation to move toward open and inclusive political debates for all candidates.
The back-to-back debates for U.S Senate and Illinois gubernatorial candidates are scheduled for Thursday, October 21, 2010, at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. The debates will take place in the Carl Sandburg Auditorium in Holmes Student Center. U.S. Senate candidates will be first from 6 – 7:30 p.m., followed by the gubernatorial debate from 8 – 9:30 p.m.
Christina Tobin, President of Free and Equal, will be moderating and NTUI President Jim Tobin, who received his masters degree in economics from NIU, will be there in support of his daughter. This debate is sponsored by National Taxpayers United of Illinois and The Free and Equal Elections Foundation.
